Our Favorite Places Nearby

Cashtown Inn sits right in the middle of some of Pennsylvania's most rewarding countryside. After years of sending guests out the door each morning, we have a few favorite things to see and do that we keep coming back to ourselves. Here's where we like to send you.

For History Buffs

Gettysburg and Beyond

No stay here is complete without a walk through Gettysburg National Military Park, just minutes down the road — the battlefield where the events we talk about on our own History page actually unfolded. Right alongside it, the Eisenhower National Historic Site offers a very different piece of history: the home and farm of the 34th president, tucked quietly behind the same fields.

For Cider & Apple Country Fans

Wineries, Orchards, and Apple Heritage

We're in the heart of apple country, and it shows. Reid's Orchard & Winery and Adams County Winery are both a short drive away, offering locally crafted wines and inviting tasting experiences rooted in the region's agricultural heritage. At Adams County Winery, sip your way through a selection of wines in a historic barn surrounded by rolling countryside. Round out your visit with a stop at the National Apple Museum, a small, proudly local museum dedicated to the fruit that helped build this county.

For the Outdoor-Minded

Trails, Forests, and Open Sky

South Mountain and Michaux State Forest offer scenic backroads, quiet trails, and more than 85,000 acres to explore just beyond our door. A bit further out, Caledonia State Park makes for a full day outdoors, with picnic spots, hiking, and a swimming pool in summer.

For the Curious

Roadside Wonders Worth the Detour

Not far away, Mister Ed's Elephant Museum is exactly the kind of delightfully odd roadside stop that makes a road trip memorable — over 10,000 elephants, a candy emporium, and grounds you can wander for as long as you like. For something a little more grounded (literally), the Historic Round Barn & Farm Market in Biglerville is one of only a handful of true round barns still standing in the country, built in 1914 and still stocked with local fruit, baked goods, and small-batch treats.

Your Home Base for It All

Wherever your day takes you, Cashtown Inn is the perfect home base to return to — close enough to reach it all, far enough removed to feel like your own quiet corner of history.
